Something special is simmering at Davis Summer House, and it’s not just in the kitchen.
A new monthly tradition, International Cuisine Night, has quickly become a favorite for both residents and staff. If you’ve never heard of Davis Summer House or Summer House, Inc., you might picture just another residential facility. But it’s much more than that. We support adults with developmental disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, and mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. And while care is at the core of what we do, connection is what truly defines us. Whether you explore our website, scroll through our social media, or have experienced a facility tour or Summer House, Inc. event, you’ll see it: this is a vibrant, close-knit community. The staff bring creativity, energy, and heart to every day, and nowhere is that more evident than on International Cuisine Nights.
Each month, residents take a culinary trip around the world. In May, the destination was China. The kitchen turned out a full feast: savory broccoli beef, comforting wonton soup, and sweet, crispy almond cookies. Aromas filled the house, conversation buzzed around the table, and the evening ended with full plates and even fuller hearts.
Every resident receives a themed “ticket” for the journey. In April, it was the Mediterranean, complete with hummus, falafel, and plenty of olive oil. These little details make each night an immersive experience.
But International Cuisine Night isn’t just about food. It’s about connection, sharing stories, cultures, and laughter. It’s about community. About celebrating diversity in a way that feels joyful, warm, and real.
Too often, care homes are seen as quiet places with routine days. At Davis Summer House, we hope these moments show something different: a lively home full of flavor, friendship, and the joy of shared experience.
